‘Heavy sci-fi films fed to us by legends such as Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan have led to humans in the present think hard about the possibilities of traveling in the past or the future’
IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE A GEEK WHO LOVES BRILLIANTLY MADE SCI-FI FILMS LIKE ‘INTERSTELLAR’ AND LIKES TO TALK ABOUT ANYTHING THAT HAS THE MERE MENTION OF SPACE AND TIME, YOU ARE LIKELY TO BE HIGHLY INTERESTED IN THE FUTURE OF ‘TIME TRAVEL’.
The concept of ‘time travel’ can be quite tricky to understand for a layman but its possibilities and existing hypothetical theories are never-ending. Heavy sci-fi films fed to us by legends such as Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan have led to humans in the present think hard about the possibilities of traveling in the past or the future. The National Geographic channel has a lot of interesting videos that explain the phenomenon quite well and weigh in concrete facts and logistics. The amount of YouTube videos dedicated to time traveling methods and actual accounts of people who have come back from the future (quite pretentious yet interesting) have garnered millions of views. Leaving the skeptics aside, the future of ‘time travel’ is extremely interesting and can open new vistas. A time traveling machine has been showcased as a mode of transport in almost all of the dozen films that have been made based on this topic. Yes, in reality, to attempt a travel to a different time-space, one needs a space shuttle, time-traveling machine or a high-speed modern rocket to pass through the wormhole. A wormhole is a tunnel or a portal that can crunch time.
Basically, it is considered to be a shortcut (not to be taken literally) that can reduce your time of travel but the time on Earth will be the same as it has been. Take this as a hypothetical example: You happen to travel via the wormhole and it takes you only 5 to 10 years to travel back and forth. You will mostly be coming back to find all of your young friends, now in their 60’s-80 or they probably won’t even be alive by this time. If that isn’t intimidating enough for you, here’s another one. The scientists say there is a big possibility of getting stuck in the future with no way to come back to the present as we haven’t made those advances yet. As a matter of fact, to travel and to come back within a stipulated time, one needs to run along the speed of light at a full rate of 99.999% and have enough medicines, food, and water to bring them back safely. There have been accounts of several estranged time travelers who claim to have come from the future. When they were interrogated, they have made quite some revelations that are worthy of being heard just for the sake of curiosity at least.
Although we haven’t witnessed a successful, legit and a well-planned time-travel, we are in the process of making one happen in the next 20 years. As easy as it can be to travel into the future, the question of traveling in the past is almost impossible right now because of a certain ‘Grandfather Paradox’ that states that if you were to mess things up in the past, it can affect the present gravely. There is always a possibility of you or your family not existing in the first place if you were to, for the sake of thrill and revenge, kill your grandfather. Time travel, sadly, still an object of desire is yet to achieve safe arrival back and forth. To make it work, one needs to invest an unimaginable amount of money, resources and put in concrete research to make it a reality. Although there lies an uphill task ahead of us, probably our future generations will be lucky enough to witness a successful time-travel story!
