The perfect spot for craft beer enthusiasts


For most of us, Sundays are for Netflix and chill, while for the rest it starts at 4 pm and somehow ends at 8 pm. There exists a third lot, who like to start the binge drinking early and make the most of the day. For them brunches, cookouts, day-drinking are all synonymous to Sundays.

I belong to that third category and one great place that I stumbled upon on one of my binge drink days was Ales, Brews & Ciders Brewing Company, Kalyani Nagar. That day, as usual, my body clock had awoken me sharp at 7 am even though it was a holiday, I got up, picked out my special brunch outfit, the one with the big flowers and frills, got dressed and headed out with some friends. It was a breezy December afternoon and one of those Sundays when you don’t wake up with a hangover. It looked promising.

Now let me give you a little one-o’-one on how to do this right. To make the most of your day, reach the place not later than noon. It sets the mood right and gives you enough time to enjoy the party. The brunch has a pre-fixed menu with a large variety of appetisers, salads, mains, dessert and the craft beer, with different cover charges to suit everyone’s preferences, so pick as you like. Take a bunch of friends along; sure, there’ll be great company at the pub too, but it’s always better to go with people you already know.

On arrival, I noticed that Ales, Brews and Ciders has a huge parking space with a valet too. The party was outdoors which was great considering pleasant December afternoons. I gorged on some delectable chicken seekh kebabs for starters; and while there were a lot of vegetarian choices too, I couldn’t seem to get enough of those kebabs. The chicken was tender, well roasted and hot-from-the-oven hot! They brew their own beers; which is an art, I feel, and one that they’ve mastered. Then came the highlight of my pleasant afternoon, eight trial shots of freshly brewed beers and wine coolers. Each one more delicious than the last, I could not stop with just one sip of each and quickly move on to the next. I took my own sweet time with each shot and ordered myself a German wheat beer, which is a light beer and and is made with saaz hops. For the mains I was in the mood for some Thai food and called in for the Thai green curry with prawns and rice, which was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of tangy-ness.

With a live band and DJ playing alternately, it created a perfect sun-dazed ambience. It’s quite striking to look at and a great ‘instagramable’ place. What I like the most about it is that it’s massive, meaning both its interiors and exteriors can hold large crowds, so you don’t feel cramped up. Great to spend weekends at and if you’re a fan of craft beer, this is the place to be.
