‘Fresh shades and sophisticated silhouettes were the main characters of the show’

Manish Malhotra’s dramatic Summer Couture 2018 collection upped this calendar’s fashion quotient, along with the stunning property it was shown at

A real fashion show is supposed to get people’s hearts racing with the desire to own the offerings, and blow their minds enough for them to talk about it everywhere they go. Unfortunately the trend in our times of strange stinginess has been the Instagram-type of fashion shows, with straightforward purpose and little drama. So when one of India’s most famous and prolific designers comes to town with 50 models, a 400-ft circular ramp and delicately crafted outfits for his new collection, one knows that something different is up. And that was the exact case when Manish Malhotra descended upon the YOO Villas property in Pune with his 2018 Summer Couture collection, presented in an equally stunning manner by Bollywood showstoppers like Aditi Rao Hydari, Radhika Apte, Nushrat Bharucha and Sophie Choudry.

The collection, inspired by the sights and vibes of Kashmir, was a intelligent and modern take on traditional outfits, still in great demand in our country that loves throwing and attending wedding parties. The standout points of the collection were the delicate pastel shades and sheer work on the fabric, creating light and free-flowing silhouettes that certainly seemed impactful on the ramp. Nudes, mint greens, light pinks and pastel blues – the colours of the collection were especially impressive and should bring freshness to this Indian summer. The launch of the collection also coincided with the launch of the prestigious YOO Villas project, a collaboration between the renowned YOO brand of international residences and Pune’s Panchshil Realty. YOO Chief John Hitchcox was present at the launch himself, and it was interesting to see the similar approaches towards luxury and design from the fashion icon and the world-renowned real-estate developer. A heightened sense of detail, an eye on luxury and a reinvention of glamour for the modern day -that seemed to be the focus of the new couture collection, and the upcoming luxury property.
